John Howard laisse la place au candidat rentrant Kevin Rudd après onze années à la tête du gouvernement fédéral.
Le parti libéral (conservateur) fait désormais place au parti travailliste (républicain).Un référendum pourrait être organisé pour décider de l’influence de la monarchie dans le rôle de l’état.
Cela reste encore à voire mais si le peuple Australien le décide, il se pourrait que notre chère reine Elizabeth II ne soit plus à la tête de l’état pour très longtemps.

The Age pictures new deputy prime minister Julia Gillard on front page under the headline “Pom’s daughter is the toast of Australia”. It says she can’t believe the reality of her new life.

In the mean time in Britain
The Sunday Times says the lesson of the result is that a good economy is not enough for a Government to retain power, with voters motivated more by the issue of climate change.
The Sunday Mirror says Mr Rudd is a staunch republican who wants to cut ties with the UK.
Anyway, the only major story in the news is the speculation over who will be the next manager of the England soccer team following the sacking of Steve McClaren.

And what is said in The United States
The Washington Post predicts Australia will now move away from the policies that made John Howard one of George Bush’s closest allies.
